If the desiccant inside this canister becomes saturated, moisture will circulate in the system, turning into ice at the expansion valve or causing internal acid formation that degrades the compressor oil. This component is the "heart" of your A/C system's moisture and debris management. It removes moisture (via a desiccant bag) and filters out particulate matter (via an internal filter element) from the refrigerant before it reaches the expansion valve.
